Book Events for Dec. 2

Adult spoken word poetry workshop series resumes in December

Forward Arts begins its second series of spoken word poetry workshops for adults 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Tuesday evenings beginning Dec. 4 in the Hartley/Vey Studio Theatres.

The Verse Lab is a 10-week spoken word poetry workshop series that focuses on the fundamentals of poetry created for the purpose of being performed. Participants will study contemporary spoken word poets, as well as the work of acclaimed traditional poets. They will also create their own original poetry and learn a few simple techniques that will have them performing like the pros.

The Verse Lab is led by Forward Arts/WordPlay teaching artists, Chancelier ‘xero’ Skidmore and Donney Rose. Skidmore was ranked third at the 2010 Individual World Poetry Slam competition and Rose is a seven-time member of the Baton Rouge National Poetry Slam Team and the 2012 Baton Rouge representative for Individual World Poetry Slam. Together they have a combined 18 years of experience as instructors and facilitators.

Interested participants can register for the full 10-week series by calling the Manship Theatre ticket desk at (225) 344-0334 or visiting http://www.manshiptheatre.org. The cost for the entire 10 weeks is $150 or participants can pay a weekly fee of $25 per workshop.
