Exhibit continues

The exhibit, Our Louisiana: Celebrating 200 Years of Statehood runs through March 2013 at the Louisiana State Museum’s Capitol Park Museum, 660 N. Fourth St. Among 450,000 artifacts in the museum’s holdings, curators chose some 150 for the exhibit, including paintings, prints, photographs, clothing, textiles, industrial and scientific equipment, furniture, decorative arts, maps, books and manuscripts, including the hospital bed in which Huey P. Long died in Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. Admission is free.

Artist entries sought

The George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts is calling for artists’ entries for its fourth annual art contest in partnership with the Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation. The 2013 theme is “Louisiana’s Culinary Heritage,” and the winning artwork will be used in a new cookbook published by both foundations. The annual George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts scholarship art contest offers one-time college scholarships and awards totaling more than $45,000 to the top 10 senior and top five junior winners. The top winner will receive a $6,000 college scholarship. All Louisiana juniors and seniors attending public and private high schools, home-schooled students and GED students are eligible to enter. Garden Gateways

Families looking for outdoor activities this October can visit The National World War II Museum’s Victory Garden, 945 Magazine St., and other participating gardens in the New Orleans area, as part of the Garden Gateways program. The Victory Garden is open to the public from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays in October.
