The 2012 Baton Rouge Blues Foundation Gala starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Capitol Park Museum. The event begins with a red carpet entrance and juke box reception at the museum’s reflecting pool and a reception in the museum lobby featuring Louisiana cuisine.
An awards ceremony with emcee and blues artist Larry Garner will honor the late blues artists Lightnin’ Hopkins and T-Bone Walker as well as Emanuel Crump Sr., owner of the Hide Out Night Club, a music venue of the 1950s. The evening continues with a swamp-blues jam, starting at 8:30 p.m., featuring Garner, Kenny Neal, Henry Gray, Luther Kent, Lil’ Ray Neal, Oscar “Harpo” Davis and James Johnson. There’s also a silent auction presented by the Baton Rouge Blues Society.
Tickets are $35 and include a year’s membership in the non-profit Baton Rouge Blues Foundation, presenter of the Baton Rouge Blues Festival, as well as admission for the evening to the museum’s Louisiana Dance Hall exhibit.
