The Advocate has an opening in the Sports Department for a full time Prep Sportswriter/Coordinator.
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Prep Sportswriter/Coordinator will be based in New Orleans and will be responsible for covering high school sports in the New Orleans area. Travel is required. The sportswriter will also coordinate further prep coverage of the beat, assigning other writers and photographers. The successful candidate is also responsible for integrating the New Orleans coverage with our Baton Rouge edition. The sportswriter will also be responsible for pitching and developing long-form, enterprise or trend stories.
Required Education, Prior Work Experience & Specialized Skills and Knowledge:
A bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field is preferred. Three years of experience is strongly preferred. Strong skills as a columnist and a strong ability to use social media and multimedia as well as adapt to changes in technology as they unfold are a must. Strong personal skills and organizational skills are extremely vital and fundamental.
