Newsroom for a full-time People Writer
The Advocate has an opening in the Newsroom for a full-time People Writer to work 40 hours per week.
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The People writer will develop feature stories and packages primarily for the People section. Successful candidate must be able to come up with story ideas and work with photographers, editors, and graphics designers in presenting stories. Must be outgoing and comfortable dealing with the general public and must work with others on the People staff in processing reader- generated content and news releases. The People Writer must have an eye for detail and assist as needed with production, including proofing pages. Some night and weekend work required.
Required Education, Prior Work Experience & Specialized Skills and Knowledge: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Journalism or related field. Minimum three years writing/reporting experience required. Must be able to multi-task and write on a deadline. Must be familiar with computer word processing, and familiarity with changing digital technology is helpful. Must be committed to learning new technologies and receptive to working across platforms from traditional print medium to the newest digital platforms. Must also be able to multi-task and look for ways to use technology to help present stories on varied platforms.
