No. 12 Ole Miss squeezes past Southeastern La. 2-1

HAMMOND — The Southeastern Louisiana baseball team dropped a tight 2-1 game to the No. 12 Ole Miss on Tuesday in the opener of a two-game series at Alumni Field.

Southeastern (9-6) scored first with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Second baseman Brooks Morse drew a walk from Ole Miss left-hander Jeremy Massie (1-1), stole second and moved to third on Kevin Carr’s infield single. Center fielder Jacob Seward drove in Morse on a fielder’s choice grounder to shortstop.

Ole Miss (15-2) in the fourth after Lions starter Sean Kennel (1-2) hit Austin Anderson with a pitch leading off the inning. Will Allen, Sikes Orvis and Preston Overbey had back-to-back-to-back singles to eventually score Anderson.

In the sixth, Orvis turned on a pitch and snuck it inside the right field foul pole for his third home run.

Sophomore left-hander Kyle Cedotal (0-1, 0.00 ERA) will start for the Lions at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Freshman leftl-hander Evan Anderson (0-0, 3.38) will start for the Rebels.
