LSU is coming off an 86-58 season-opening win over Stephen F. Austin on Friday night, led by DaShawn Harden’s 20 points and Theresa Plaisance’s 18 points and eight rebounds. Danielle Ballard added 18 points, six assists and three steals. Raigyne Moncrief had 10 poiants, six assists and three steals. Saint Joseph’s defeated Mount St. Mary’s 85-57 Friday night. Sunday’s quarterfinal is paired in the bracket with the Louisville-Quinnipiac game, which will be played Monday. The winners advance to the Thursday semifinal at a time and location to be announced Monday night. Men SOUTHERN AT MIDDLE TENNESSEE: At Murfreesboro, Tenn., Southern will face Middle Tennessee in the Global Sports Tournament at 4 p.m. Sunday. Southern opened the season Friday night with a 63-56 loss to No. 17 Marquette. Malcolm Miller scored 14 points, all in the first half, for the Jaguars. ULL 101, Louisiana College 67: In Lafayette, Elfrid Payton and Shawn Long each registered double-doubles, combining to score 44 points as Louisiana-Lafayette raced past Louisiana College. Long finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds, while Patyon had 21 points and 10 assists. The Cajuns were 41-for-79 from the field and 17-for19 from the free-throw line. Anthony Gaines Jr. led the Wildcats with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Kevin Cottonham used a 10-for-10 showing at the line to add 12 points. DePaul 96, Grambling 58: In Chicago, freshman Tommy Hamilton IV scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in his college debut to help lead the DePaul Blue Demons in their season-opener at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Cleveland Melvin scored a team-high 17 points, including all five of his 3-point attempts. DePaul started the second half on a 13-2 run and maintained a healthy lead to lock up its sixth consecutive season-opening victory. A’Torri Shine had 21 points for Grambling (0-1). UTEP 84, Loyola New Orleans 49: In El Paso, Texas, Matt Willms scored 20 points and led three other players in double digits for UTEP. Willms scored 18 points in the second half while the Miners outscored the Wolf pack in the final 20 minutes 49-28. Julian Washburn scored 12 points with eight rebounds, and John Bohannon grabbed eight rebounds also along with 16 points. McKenzie Moore scored 15 points and tied for a game-high five assists with Justin Crosgile. Loyola went 0-for-7 on 3-pointers. Jalen Gray and Kyle Simmons each scored 12 points. Xavier 71, Albany State 68: Morris Wright hit a 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds left to lift Xavier of New Orleans at the Convocation Center. Sydney Coleman scored 18 points, and Wright was 5-of-6 on 3-pointers for the Gold Rush (2-0). Jamorris Gaines led Albany State (0-1) with 21 points. Women Xavier 79, Spring Hill 49: Paige Gauther scored 11 points to lead Xavier (2-0). Corinne Missi scored nine points for Spring Hill (0-2). Loyola 108, Fisk 70: In Nashville, Tenn., sophomore Shayne Charles and junior Megan Whittaker each scored 17 points for the Wolf Pack (2-1). Charles was 3-for-3 from 3-point range and had eight rebounds. Janeicia Neely added 14 points and nine assists, Jasmine Brewer 13 points and five rebounds, and Kylah Jones scored 10.
