Tulane’s focus on Louisiana recruiting paid its latest dividend on Tuesday.
East St. John defensive end Daren Williams chose the Green Wave, becoming the 11th commitment from the state and 14th overall. Williams is the eighth New Orleans-area player to commit to Tulane coach Curtis Johnson as he pieces together his third signing class.
The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder is rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports.com and spurned offers from Louisiana-Lafayette, South Florida, Southern Miss and Southern Illinois.
Williams is the fifth three-star prospect to commit to Tulane for the 2014 class, according to 247sports, joining Ville Platte tight end Kendall Ardoin, Mandeville quarterback Glen Cuiellette, Donaldsonville receiver Leondre James and Destrehan linebacker JaeJuan Marbley. He is also the third East St. John player to commit to Tulane under Johnson’s tenure, joining defensive backs Darion Monroe (signed in 2012) and Leonard Davis (signed in earlier this year).
