Tulane adds former Curtis player Tyler Gilbert

As its players reported for training camp Friday, the Tulane football team announced that former John Curtis High School player Tyler Gilbert, a defensive end, will be on the team this season.

A 6-foot-3, 244-pound native of Sorrento, Gilbert started his college career at Arkansas, appearing in five games with three tackles as a freshman in 2011. He was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary and theft of property in April 2012. He was removed from the team and ultimately given 12 months’ probation after pleading guilty that July.

Gilbert will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. After leaving Arkansas, he played for a season at Southwest Mississippi Community College.

In 2009, he had 36 tackles and seven sacks to help Curtis to the state title game. He played at North Carolina Prep the next season, posting 62 tackles and five sacks.
