As he prepares for his second year as the Southeastern Louisiana football coach, Ron Roberts will join the other coaches from the Southland Conference in representing his school Wednesday at the league’s annual media day.
All eight coaches from the Southland’s football-playing schools will be at L’auberge Resort in Lake Charles and each will be accompanied by two players.
Roberts will be joined by quarterback Bryan Bennett, an Oregon transfer, and linebacker Kaleb Muse.
In addition, the head coaches from the three schools (Abilene Christian, Houston Baptist and Incarnate Word) set to begin play in the Southland in 2014 are scheduled to attend.
Bennett is expected to take over as Southeastern’s starter after serving as the backup to Darron Thomas in 2011 and Marcus Mariota last year with the Ducks. Muse led the Lions in tackles as a sophomore last season.
Nicholls State tight end Nick Scelfo, a St. Michael graduate, is among the other players expected to attend.
In conjunction with media day, the conference’s two preseason polls — coaches and sports information directors — will be announced.
Sam Houston State is coming off back-to-back trips to the FCS championship game. Central Arkansas went 6-1 in the league last year to share the conference title with SHSU.
Southeastern finished 5-6 overall but was third in the conference with a 5-2 mark.
Fans can check in on Wednesday’s happenings as “Live From Southland Media Day” will be available on ESPN3.com from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The show includes interviews with all coaches and players from the eight football-playing schools.
