Tulane women’s golfers tied for second at regional Tulane women’s golfers tied for second at regional Advocate news services May 17, 2013 Comments NEW ORLEANS — The 19th-ranked Tulane women’s golf team opened the NCAA East Regional with a 5-under 283 total for a tie for second place, while the freshman tandem of Emily Penttila and Madison Opfer each finished under par and rank among the top-10 golfers following the first round at the Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala. The Green Wave will join Texas and Notre Dame for Friday’s second round teeing off from the 10th hole at 11:50 a.m. Penttila is tied for fourth place and is one stroke off the lead. Opfer recorded one birdie and one bogey on the front nine to stay even at the turn and recorded two more birdies on the back nine to finish 2-under and tied for ninth place. Gemma Dryburgh bogeyed three straight holes and was 3-over at the turn but heated up on the back nine with three consecutive birdies on holes 14-16 to finish at even par and tied for 21st place. Maribel Lopez Porras and Silvia Garces each turned in quality rounds with identical 1-over 73s and are tied for 33rd. Top seed and second-ranked Alabama combined for an 11-under 277 total and holds a six-stroke lead over Tulane and No. 5 Arkansas.
