May 10, 2013 23:16 ULL heads to Houston for final midweek game ULL heads to Houston for final midweek game Advocate news services May 10, 2013 Comments Louisiana-Lafayette and Houston — two baseball teams that have gone in different directions over the past month — will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cougar Field in the Ragin’ Cajuns final midweek game of the season. ULL won 12 of 18 games in April, while Houston has lost 11 of 15. This will be the Cougars’ only home game in a nine-game stretch, which began with a midweek loss at Texas and continued with three straight defeats at UCF. Matt Plitt (3-0, 2.55 ERA) will get this third midweek start for ULL. Last week, Plitt tossed eight innings in a 6-3 win over Southeastern Louisiana. In his two previous midweek starts this month, Plitt has pitched a combined 14 innings and allowed just three runs and 11 hits. The Cougars have not named a starter. Houston, which began Conference USA play at the top of the standings, has tumbled to sixth. The Cougars play at Tulane this weekend. Houston is hitting .261 as a team, led by freshman Justin Montemayor (.308). Sophomore Michael Pyeatt has come on strong of late, upping his average to .294, while freshman Kyle Survance continues to remain consistent at .284. He has reached base safely in 12 consecutive games. The Ragin’ Cajuns, meanwhile, have warmed up with the weather, rising to third in the Sun Belt standings. ULL has collected double-digit hits in 12 of its last 18 games and is hitting .337 since April 1. The Cajuns have homered at least once in eight straight games. ULL reached 50 home runs for the first time since 2009 when Dex Kjerstad homered in the sixth inning Sunday at FIU. Dylan Butler was on a tear last week, as well. He went 12-for-22 over the past five games, raising his April batting average to .478.
