Didier Field in Thibodaux. In a matchup of left-handers, sophomore Kody Smith (0-2, 5.55 ERA) will start for ULL (24-11), while freshman Grant Borne (2-0, 3.76) will start for Nicholls State (17-20). Borne went five solid innings — allowing one run on three hits — as Nicholls State fell 5-1 on Feb. 27 in Lafayette. In that meeting, Ryan Wilson threw seven innings and the Ragin’ Cajuns broke through in the eighth with four runs, including Dex Kjerstad’s two-run, bases-loaded single, to break a tie. This will be the final nonconference home game of the season for Nicholls State, which will play at UNO next week and at Tulane next month. The game will also be the start of the final homestand, with the Colonels hosting McNeese State for a three-game Southland Conference weekend series before finishing the season with an eight-game road swing. The Colonels are 4-9 in one-run games, losing seven of those in SLC play. UL-Lafayette is in the midst of a five-game road swing, with the Cajuns traveling to Northwestern State to complete a suspended game (from April 10, in the fourth inning) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night before returning home to host Florida Atlantic in a three-game set that starts Friday.
