LAKE CHARLES — McNeese State’s women’s basketball team will face Detroit in the Women’s Basketball Invitational Championship game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dick Vitale Court in Calihan Hall.
The Titans (20-13) won the only other meeting between the two teams 96-54 during the 1995-96 season.
McNeese (21-14) is playing in its first postseason tournament championship game in program history. The Cowgirls, seeded eighth in the West Division, made it to the title game by winning road games at Mercer, Elon and South Dakota.
Ashlyn Baggett leads the Cowgirls in scoring (19.0 points per game), while twin sister Caitlyn Baggett (15.5 ppg) leads the team with an 86.5 free-throw percent and 4.7 assists.
Detroit, the No. 1 seed in the East Division, is 15-1 at home this season.
The Titans are led by sophomore Shareta Brown, who is averaging 28.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in the tournament.
