BRCC wins nightcap, 3-0, to split 2 with Pearl River

Darren Bueche went 2-for-4, scored a run and had two RBIs to help Baton Rouge Community College to a 3-0 win in the nightcap Saturday to split a baseball doubleheader with Pearl River Community College.

In the opener, Braxton Lee went 3-for-5 and scored three runs to help Pearl River to an 8-1 win. Paul Pickarrell was 2-for-4 with two RBIS, and Kristjon Wilkerson was 1-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs. Christian Talley earned the win, giving up one run on five hits in six innings.

In the nightcap, Bond Babin was 2-for-5 with an RBI for BRCC. Jared Keating was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits in 5.1 innings while striking out 11.

St. Cloud State 11, Loyola 6: In Corpus Christi, Texas, Michael Jurgella hit a two-run double in a four-run second inning to help lift St. Cloud State (1-1) in the Emarald Beach South Texas Baseball Classic.

Carmelo LoSauro was 1-for-5 with two RBIs for Loyola (3-7). Karson Cullins went 0-for-4 but had an RBI and scored two runs. Tony Asta (0-1) took the loss, giving up four earned runs in 3.2 innings.

Centenary College 9, Louisiana College 7: In McKinney, Texas, Centenary College rallied for five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to overcome a 7-4 deficit.

Ben Schweinfurth went 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs, including a two-run double in the eighth, to pace Centenary (1-1). Jemari James was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Mark Riendeau was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Louisiana College (2-3). Reliever Jacob Trahan (0-1) took the loss, giving up five runs on five hits in 3.1 innings.

Softball

LSU-Eunice 4, BRCC 2: In Eunice, Julienne Broussard pitched a complete game for LSU-Eunice, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out six batters.

Brooke Clark and Taylor Simon hit back-to-back doubles in the second inning, and Randi Vosburg followed with a two-run homer.

BRCC scored single runs in the third and fifth, but the Lady Bengals gained some cushion in the bottom of the fifth when Brooke Thomas led off with a single, stole second base and scored on Emily Nolan’s RBI single.

LSU-EUNICE 5, ST. CHARLES 0: In Eunice, Elizabeth Delafield pitched four shutout innings for LSU-Eunice, striking out one, walking none and allowing three hits. Reliever Brooklyn Guillot finished up, striking out eight, giving up three hits over three shutout innings.

JACKSONVILLE STATE 7, SOUTHERN 0: In Hammond, Kalee Tabor went 3-for-3, including a two-run homer in Jacksonville State’s four-run third inning, to lead the Gamecocks to a 7-0 win over Southern in the Jimmy John’s Classic softball tournament at North Oak Park.

Krystal Ruth and Cadi Oliver hit back to back RBI doubles to start the rally.

Savannah Sloan was 2-for-4 with a stolen base, a run scored and an RBI for Jacksonville State (2-1). Tiffany Harbin (1-1) earned the win, striking out 10 and allowing three hits in seven innings.

Shawntall Steamer, Danielle Jackson and Desiree Dawson each had a hit for Southern (0-3). Kendyl Stevenson (0-1) took the loss.

Southeastern Louisiana 2, St. Louis 0: In Hammond, Jessie Browne threw a complete game shutout to lead Southeastern Louisiana.

Browne (1-0) scattered six hits and struck out three. Amber Sather and Kayla Elswick each drove in a run.

Southeastern 4, Southern 0: In Hammond, Tori Sheppard drove in three runs for the Lady Lions, including a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Rachael Hellyer (1-0) threw a complete-game shutout for Southeastern (3-1).

Louisiana Tech 3, Nicholls STATE 0: In Hammond, Michelle Jones tossed 5.2 innings of shutout ball, and Janna Frandrup recorded the last four outs in relief as the Lady Techsters blanked the Colonels in the Jimmy John’s Classic.

Dacia Hale hit a home run in the bottom of the second for Louisiana Tech, Alayna Kipp hit an RBI double in the third, and Anna Cross had an RBI single in the fourth.

Danielle Phillips hit a double for Nicholls.

Delaware 4, Louisiana Tech 3, 8 innings: In Hammond, Lara Andrews hit a three-run homer to cap a four-run rally in the bottom of the eighth for Delaware.

Louisiana Tech (1-3) had scored three runs in the top of the eighth. Kristen Miles picked up an RBI on an error, and Katelynn Cook and Dacia Hale each had an RBI sacrifice bunt.

Miles had two hits, an RBI and scored a run; and Janna Frandrup had two hits.

Frandrup (0-2) took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits.

Michelle Jones shut out Delaware (4-0) over seven innings.

Nicholls State 4, Jacksonville STATE 2: In Hammond, Hannah Haydel (1-0) threw a complete-game four-hitter, allowing one earned run.

Ashley Bertot had two hits and scored two runs, while Danielle Phillips, Brittany Marcet and Courtney Vanlandingham each drove in a run for Nicholls (2-2).
