LSU offering $5 tickets for five select games

LSU is offering $5 tickets to five select baseball games this season. The “5 for $5” ticket promotion commemorates the Tigers’ fifth season in the new Alex Box Stadium.

The $5 tickets are on sale now for the following games: Lamar (Feb. 19), Nicholls State (March 3), Northwestern State (March 20), Grambling (April 17) and McNeese State (April 30).

Tulane, SLU

FACUNDUS, HILLS NAMED TO WATCH LIST: Tulane pitcher Alex Facundus and Southeastern Louisiana pitcher Dylan Hills were named to the Preseason National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Watch List announced Friday.

Facundus, a former Catholic High standout, made 25 appearances out of the bullpen in 2012, second on the team behind former closer D.J. Ponder’s 27 appearances. Facundus pitched 36 1/3 innings, posting a 1.98 ERA and striking out 28. In those 25 relief appearances, Facundus notched a 3-2 record.

Hills, a junior from Ponchatoula, went 9-4 with two saves and a 1.64 ERA last season and led the Lions in wins while limiting opponents to a .181. He finished second in appearances (27), saves and strikeouts (51).

Kids clinic postponed

EVENT OFF UNTIL MAY: The 66th Baton Rouge Kids Baseball Clinic scheduled for Sunday has been postponed until May because of wet field conditions and expected rain forecast for Sunday.

The free clinic is open to all kids from 6 years old to graduating high school seniors.
