Advocate staff report Aug. 11, 2013 Comments Dawson Odums, who begins his first year as Southern’s full-time head football coach, will be the guest speaker Monday at the Baton Rouge Press Club. Odums will discuss the upcoming season and what people can expect as he tries to rebuild the program. The former defensive coordinator took over as interim head coach last season in the wake of Stump Mitchell’s firing. Southern went 4-5 in its final nine games under Odums. The Jaguars open fall camp July 31 before conducting their first practice Aug. 2. Southern opens its 12-game schedule against the University of Houston at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 30 in Reliant Stadium. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. Monday; it is $12 for members and $15 for nonmembers. The public is invited, but only members of the Press Club and media are allowed to ask questions during the question-and-answer portion of the program. The Baton Rouge Press Club meets Mondays at De La Ronde Hall, which is located at 320 Third Street in downtown Baton Rouge.
