GRAMBLING — First baseman Brandon Kiser hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to help rally Grambling to a 7-6 Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball win over Southern on Sunday at Wilbert Ellis Field.
Jose Longoria hit a two-out single to start the rally for the Tigers (5-13, 3-5). Juan Bueno followed with another single, setting up Kiser’s blast.
SU (9-8, 5-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, keyed by Sean Washington scoring on a wild pitch and an RBI ground out by Derrick Hopkins to bring in Marcus Tomlin.
Grambling evened the score in the third on Kris Minter’s RBI single and Bueno’s RBI double.
Southern got the lead back in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Brian Ortiz and Washington’s RBI walk.
“We had a lot of opportunities to bust the game open,” SU coach Roger Cador said. “But I was never comfortable with the way it was going. We let them hang around.”
