Northern Colorado cruises by SU
Northern Colorado raced out to a 6-0 lead and pounded out 17 hits en route to a 13-4 softball victory over Southern on Thursday at SU.
Erin Geddis and Lindsey Smith each had four hits to lead the way for a season-opening win for Northern Colorado (1-0). Both players scored three runs.
Four Northern Colorado players — Jamie Pollak, Erin Wilkinson, Tianalia Fa’Asua and Kaitlin Flynn — each contributed two runs batted in. Northern Colorado finished with five extra base hits, incuding two triples.
Gabrielle McDaniel gave up three runs and five hits in two innings and took the loss for SU (0-1). Shawntall Steamer, who finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, was the only Southern player with more than one hit.
Steamer’s two-RBI single was the key play in a four-run third inning.
