Saints camp: Five observations from Sunday’s practice

The last rep was spectacular: Backup Saints QB Ryan Griffin connected with TE Ben Watson for a touchdown on a Hail Mary from about midfield.

But before that, in drills simulating last-minute drives, Griffin threw what would’ve been a pick-six to CB Corey White. Competing with Griffin to be the No. 2 QB, Luke McCown threw three incompletions and ate a sack-fumble in four downs.

Undrafted rookie S Pierre Warren isn’t cooling off. After a solid day in Friday’s win at St. Louis, he picked off a pass in drills, inching ever closer to a roster spot.

New Saints FB Greg Jones, an 11-year NFL veteran, lined up with the first-string offense on a running drill. With FB Erik Lorig out, Saints coach Sean Payton said he expects Jones to see some work against Tennessee on Friday in New Orleans.

WR Joseph Morgan and CB Patrick Robinson were limited. After missing Friday’s game, RB Pierre Thomas conditioned.
