Saints tryout player Kevin Perry: ‘All I need is a chance’

Not all players here get to stay at the Greenbrier.

Kevin Perry, a free agent tight end from Texas-El Paso was one of at least three players brought in for tryouts on Tuesday. As such, they were housed at the Fairfield in Lewisburg.

Perry, who was an invitee for the Washington minicamp said he knows his odds of making the team are slim, but it’s a dream he’s not giving up on.

“Getting cut after the minicamp was a blow,” he said. “You work so hard to get to this point, and then in one weekend it’s like it’s over.

“But it was a lesson learned too. I’ve still got the passion to play so I’ll do whatever I can.”

Perry and the other tryout players were not on the field for practice, but were to be put through their workouts in the early afternoon.

And if he does make the roster for Friday’s exhibition opener at St. Louis, he would be one step closer to becoming a Jimmy Graham-like story.

Perry, who grew up in Houston but whose family is from Opelousas, played both football and baskeball for his first two years at UTEP before concentrating on basketball in his final two years.

“We were all big Saints fans,” he said. “And I’ve watched what Jimmy has been able to do.

“All I need is a chance.”
