Brees sits out Saints' Monday practice, Bailey returns

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. -- There is no shortage of injury news from today's practice.

The headliner, of course, is the continued absence of Drew Brees. The quarterback missed Saturday's Black and Gold scrimmage due to a strained left oblique and remained sidelined during Monday's session. He was present, but did not participate.

Cornerback Champ Bailey was also present for the first time since being knocked out of action last week. He rode a stationary bike with cornerback Terrence Frederick, tight eight Je'Ron Hamm, offensive lineman Ty Nsekhe and wide receiver Steve Hull.

Offensive lineman Ben Grubbs, fullback Erik Lorig, defensive linemen Glenn Foster and Jason Weaver, wide receiver Kenny Stills, and linebacker Victor Butler also did not practice.

John Jenkins also remains out following offseason pectoral surgery.

Observations

-- Center Jonathan Goodwin received some snaps at left guard with Tim Lelito at center. Coach Sean Payton previously said he would allow the center battle to go on as long as it needs to. Lelito later botched a snap.

-- Rookie cornerback Stanely Jean-Baptiste did a nice job of shedding a blocker and tackling Ingram for a loss. Later, Jean-Baptiste got caught cheating, which allowed Morgan to get open for a big gain.

-- Ronald Powell got into the backfield to strip quarterback Logan Kilgore.

-- The team did some red-zone and goalline work. It seemed the offense got the best of the offense, with Jean-Baptiste batting down a pass.

-- Cadet dropped a touchdown pass after beating Dixon to the end zone.
