Between the lines: Five observations from Saints training camp Saturday, July 26

Five observations from Saturday’s practice session:

With safety Jairus Byrd out because of a back problem, Corey White — who started eight games at cornerback last season — got plenty of work as a third safety with the first string. He also played as a safety with the twos.

RB Travaris Cadet and WR Brandin Cooks (who fielded punts Friday) got the bulk of the looks with the first unit as returners. The return game is a top focus for the Saints this year.

Backup QB Ryan Griffin sruggled during an 11-on-11 drill, having three straight passes batted away with which he struggled. To be fair, though, two were nice plays by CB Patrick Robinson.

Saints All-Pro TE Jimmy Graham lined up at outside WR some Saturday. Some found it humorous, given the WR/TE debate surrounding Graham this offseason.

After tweaking his quad during drills Friday, WR Kenny Stills spent practice pedaling on the stationary bike and observing his teammates’ on-field work.
