Between the lines: Five observations from Saints training camp Friday

Five observations from Friday’s practice session:

1

Stanley Jean-Baptiste remains a work in progress. The rookie cornerback had to go through a drill three times by coach Wesley McGriff because of poor technique. The 6-foot-3 Jean-Baptiste has intriguing size, but has some work to do before challenging for reps.

2

Speaking of McGriff, his fire and passion for his job was on display throughout Friday’s practice. He isn’t afraid to show his emotions, good and bad.

3

Brandin Cooks had a solid debut. He gets off the line quickly and often steps by his man before he can turn his hips. Getting off the line quickly Friday, he went up and over Ty Zimmerman to catch a deep pass from Drew Brees.

4

Undrafted rookie Brandon Coleman, who dropped several passes during OTAs and minicamp, made a great catch over cornerback Corey White.

5

Pro golfer Bubba Watson was in attendance and dropped a pass from Brees. Watson, who remained stationary during the pass, accused the quarterback of underthrowing him. Brees countered by saying Watson needed to come back to ball.
