They also inked veteran defensive tackle Brandon Deaderick, who LSU fans may remember from his time in college at Alabama, to a one-year deal, the team announced. After winning SEC and BCS championships at the end of the 2009 season with Alabama, the New England Patriots drafted Deaderick in the seventh round of the draft in ‘10. He spent three seasons with the Patriots before being cut in May of last year. Jacksonville claimed Deaderick off waivers. He had nine tackles, half a quarterback sack and a forced fumble playing 173 of his 304 snaps in run defense for the Jaguars over 12 games before he was placed on injured reserve with a hurt elbow in December. He has 54 tackles, 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery for his career. Deaderick, an unrestricted free agent this offseason, recently worked out for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Saints prior to Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Caplan and The Baltimore Sun’s Aaron Wilson reported. Deaderick joins the Saints after New Orleans nose tackle John Jenkins did not participate at an organized team activities practice session open to the media Thursday. Also at that practice, defensive lineman Tyrunn Walker — who was in and out in 2013 with knee problems — stretched but didn’t take part in drills. The Saints did not speak about what the situations were with Jenkins or Walker. The team created two roster spots Monday by waiving guard/center Mike Golic Jr. and outside linebacker Spencer Hadley.
