Saints nose tackle Broderick Bunkley agreed to take a pay cut to create more than $2.8 million in salary cap space for the team, according to reports.

Bunkley’s was supposed to be owed $4.5 million in salary and bonuses, but his base salary is now $1.3 million, the NFL Players Association website showed Wednesday. He will receive a $300,000 bonus, salary cap expert Joel Corry reported via Twitter. The new amount of salary and bonuses he is owed is about $1.65 million in 2014.

His base salary for 2015 and 2016 is still $4.5 million.

The move comes after the Saints agreed to deals with free-agent cornerback Champ Bailey and restricted free-agent safety Rafael Bush.
