The New Orleans Saints filled out their eight-man practice squad on Monday by signing outside linebacker Rufus Johnson and offensive tackle Senio Kelemete.

The Saints selected the 6-foot-5, 272-pound Johnson out of Tarleton State in the sixth round of this year’s draft. The Arizona Cardinals on Saturday waived Kelemete, a fifth-round pick in 2012 out of Washington.

New Orleans signed quarterback Ryan Griffin, wide receiver Saalim Hakim, tight end Michael Higgins, fullback Austin Johnson, offensive tackle Marcel Jones and cornerback Jumal Rolle to the practice squad on Sunday.

Johnson on Monday said his addition to the practice squad occurred later than his teammates’ did because he went home to visit his girlfriend, who is expecting, and couldn’t immediately sign the contract.

“I look at (being on the practice squad) as a blessing, an opportunity to get better because I’ve got some stuff I can improve on,” Johnson remarked.
