Denham Springs DL Tevin Lawson to sign with TCU

Show caption

Denham Springs High defensive lineman Tevin Lawson is scheduled to sign with TCU at 1 p.m. Friday at the school, according to DSHS coach Dru Nettles.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Lawson committed to LSU last spring and then wound up looking at other options after the Tigers asked him to take grayshirt offer instead of signing earlier this month.

Since early February, Lawson, a two-way lineman in high school, picked up numerous scholarship offers and also made visits to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Kentucky and TCU.

The past 2 years "little Nicky" has reached over to Louisiana and plucked the #1 recruit from Louisiana. One of the picks was from the LSU campus. Don't brag so much about mediocrity. Does the name "Eddie Lacy" mean anything to you? Except for Jamarcus Russell, a decade ago, when has LSU raided and disrespected Alabama so much. Don't be so proud of mediocrity.

Make the grades and he signs with LSU. You don't make grades and complications arise for schools like LSU when so many players want a scholarship (and are academically qualified) and there is not enough room. Good luck to this kid, but I hope he learned a lesson.

Unevahno: Sir!! How do you reckon that LSU did something wrong by this recruit? I am not sure but if we would be penalized, for his NOT QUALIFYING, we are STUCK LIKE CHUCK. I wish he would have taken the grey shirt, he would have received a scholarship. But it was his choice. I wish him well but LSU is not culpable here.......you qualify, and you get a scholarship how about that KARMA Sir? Good luck to him and he'll get to play LSU in Sept.....

good for him I hope he does well there and is happy. It s unfortunate that the signing rules penalize schools for non qualifiers, it puts them and the young man in a difficult position to accept him and hope he qualifies or ask him to delay his enrollment one semester so that does not become a problem. Schools other than LSU are often caught in that same predicament.

Down the line, this is going to hurt LSU. Local boy and LSU commit to each other and at the end of recruiting, LSU backs off, denying the student the choice to visit other schools. The DSHS coach is probably very protective of his players and he's hurting as much as Tevin Lawson and his parents are hurting. High school coaches talk to each other. Don't be surprised to see more top Louisiana players drifting to Alabama and other out-of-state schools. No matter what an immature 18 year old does at the last minute in any particular year, it's not right to be so disorganized that you couldn't see this coming. When the coaches stop taking calls from LSU, it's called KARMA.
