Advocate staff report Sept. 04, 2014 Comments Danny Cameron, the former Catholic High quarterback and the son of LSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, is bound for Indiana. Catholic High football coach Dale Weiner said he was told Tuesday that Cameron was set to sign with the Hoosiers. The Bloomington (Ind.) Daily News published a story saying Cameron planned to enroll where his father served as head coach from 1997-2001. Other sources have listed the younger Cameron as part of IU’s 2014 recruiting class. “We’re just very happy for Danny and his family,” Weiner said. The 6-foot-1 Cameron played defensive back and quarterback at Catholic in the fall. He completed 23 of 44 passes for 344 yards and six touchdowns. Cameron started several games when Nick Coomes was sidelined by an injury and then split time with Coomes later in the season. The IU-based rivals.com wesbsite noted Indiana had two quarterbacks transfer off last year’s team in Cam Coffman (Wyoming) and Tre Roberson, (Illinois State), both of whom started at various points of the 2013 season. The rivals.com site also noted Cameron’s play in a 7-on-7 tournament last month, calling him a “sleeper” prospect. Cameron joins Alexander Diamont, a signee from Los Angeles who graduated early and went through spring practice as Indiana’s quarterbacks in its 2014 class.
