The Louisiana High School Athletic Association will begin its pre-convention area meetings for its schools this week in Mandeville and Morgan City.
Mandeville High School is the site of the first meeting set for 10 a.m. Tuesday. LHSAA Executive Director Kenny Henderson will travel to Morgan City High School for a 10 a.m. Thursday meeting.
Henderson will review the convention agenda with member principals and coaches in those areas. The annual LHSAA convention is set for Jan. 29-31 at the Crowne Plaza.
Area meetings conclude the next week with the following:
Jan. 21: 8:30 a.m. at Parkway High in Bossier City; 1:30 p.m. at Neville High in Monroe.
Jan. 22: 8:30 a.m. at Alexandria Senior High; 1:30 p.m. at Clifton Chenier Building in Lafayette.
Jan. 23: 8:30 a.m. at LHSAA office; 1:30 p.m. at Hilton New Orleans Airport in Kenner.
WCHS to honor Johnson
White Castle is set to honor the career accomplishments of longtime boys basketball coach Ronald “Sam” Johnson and his assistant, Joseph “Joe” Jones, on Feb. 7.
The coaches will be honored in conjunction with the Bulldogs’ District 8-1A game against Ascension Catholic.
Johnson, who retired after the 2011-12 season, compiled a career mark of 687-249. He coached at the school from 1987-2012. Johnson won Class 1A state titles in 1991, 2002 and 2011 and finished as the runners-up in 1992, 1995, 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2012 to go along with 20 district titles.
All of Johnson’s former players are invited to attend. T-shirts are being sold to commemorate the event. Orders must be placed by Jan. 23. Call the school at (225) 545-3621.
Live Oak will host its second annual basketball alumni reception on Jan. 17 at the school’s C.B. Wheat Gymnasium. The event will be held in conjunction with Eagles’ District 4-5A boys basketball game against Walker.
All former players are invited to see the school’s new facilities, including its new gym.
Zachary is accepting applications for its head football coaching position. Neil Weiner resigned as the Broncos’ coach late last month to become head coach at The Dunham School.

Louisiana School for the Deaf seeks a physical education teacher who would be considered for coaching responsibilities. Those interested can apply online at www.lalsd.org.
The Dunham School’s Quinton Thomas and Christian Life Academy’s RJ Hertzog recently cracked the 1,000-point barrier in their careers.
Hertzog scored his 1,000th point against Woodlawn on Jan 7. Thomas netted his 1,000th career point vs. Donaldsonville on Jan. 3.
