Donaldsonville edges Assumption

DONALDSONVILLE — Tyler Brown completed 11-of-18 passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns to help Donaldsonville High notch a 24-21 victory over Assumption Friday at Floyd Boutte Stadium.

Leondre James caught five passes for 86 yards for the Class 3A Tigers. Jaquel Gant, Dion Deal and Stephen Sullivan each caught a touchdown pass to help first-year coach Benny Guilbeaux garner his first win.

Deal caught a 27-yard TD pass and then Sullivan added a 20-yard scoring grab as DHS (1-0) built as 12-7 lead at halftime. Gant’s 7-yard TD catch in the fourth quarter provided the margin of victory.

Dontrez Wiggins finished with 90 yards on 24 carries to pace 4A Assumption (0-1). Joshua Brown caught four passes for 42 yards and a had a TD catch for the Mustangs.

POINTE COUPEE CENTRAL 64, EAST IBERVILLE 0: In LaBarre, 10th-ranked PCC (1-0), of Class 1A, rushed for 216 yards and limited EIHS (0-1) to minus-54 yards.

Gary Bowser finished with 84 yards on four carries, while Ernest Lemay added 74 yards on four carries and also caught a 45-yard TD pass for the Cougars, who gave coach Cleotha Johnigan Jr. his first victory.

Altonio Johnson completed 5-of-7 passes for 109 yards and three TDs. Backup QB Kensley Cotton ran 47 yards for a score.

Rao’Quan Powell returned two punts for TDs for PCC, while Steven Guidry added a 52-yard interception for a TD. Kevante Bellazin led the PCC defense with four tackles for loss and three sacks.

BYRD 58, ZACHARY 21: In Shreveport, four players scored first-quarter TDs to help Byrd build a 30-0 lead.

Keven Starks ran for 84 yards on 16 carries for Byrd (1-0). Keon Brown completed 11-of-25 passes for 122 yards, and Lindsey Scott was 5-for-5 for 100 yards for Zachary (0-1), which yielded 324 rushing yards. Chris Carrier had four catches for 112 yards for ZHS.

TERREBONNE 60, REDEMPTORIST 21: In Houma, quarterback Colby Stewart ran for 129 yards to pace Class 5A Terrebonne (1-0), which broke the game open in the second quarter.

Russell Gage passed for 88 yards, ran for 59 yards and added 63 receiving yards for Class 2A Redemptorist (0-1).

CHEF 28, AMITE SCHOOL CENTER 22: In Liberty, Miss., Arek Moslander completed 9-of-18 passes for 302 yards and four TDs to help lead Christian Home Educators Fellowship. Spencer Costa was Moslander’s primary target, catching TD passes of 62, 80 and 78 yards for the Patriots to finish with 220 receiving yards.

Davis Pourcaui added three catches for 49 yards and one TD for CHEF. Josh Jackson ran for 102 yards on 14 carries with one TD for Amite School Center.
