Jun 8, 2013 22:33 Spring Hill softball team wins NAIA opener Spring Hill softball team wins NAIA opener Advocate staff report June 08, 2013 Comments COLUMBUS, Ga. — Former Teurlings Catholic player Shea Blanchard hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the 14th inning to give Spring Hill College (46-15) a come-from-behind 6-3 win over Southern States Athletic Conference rival Auburn-Montgomery to open the NAIA’s 33rd National Softball Championships. The 10th-seeded Badgers face No. 2 Lubbock Christian (58-8) at 4 p.m. Saturday. Ex-Hahnville High player Elise deBruler hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. Caroline Sagrera, a former St. Joseph’s Academy player, pitched all 14 innings, allowing six hits and six walks while striking out 12. At the plate, deBruler finished 3-for-4, while Blanchard was 2-for-7. Lauren Shaw had a two-run homer in the second and Leslie Kelly added a solo home run in the third to give Auburn-Montgomery (44-11) its 3-0 lead. Losing pitcher Cassie Daniels gave up seven hits, struck out 19 and walked 13.
