Three Baton Rouge teams and one New Orleans team make up a huge part of the Class 5A tourney that begins at Tulane’s Turchin Stadium with quarterfinals Friday. Five Baton Rouge area teams in Class 4A, 3A and C are headed to Sulphur’s McMurry Park for Friday semifinals. It’s the same scenario — Friday semifinals — for two Baton Rouge teams in the 2A and 1A tournament at the University of Louisiana-Monroe’s Warhawk Field. Catholic High, the 21st seed, opens play at the 5A tourney by taking on No. 13 Sulphur at 10 a.m. Two Baton Rouge area teams, No. 10 Zachary and No. 18 St. Amant, square off at 4 p.m. Third-seeded Brother Martin, the lone New Orleans team, takes on No. 6 Sam Houston at 7 p.m. Defending 5A champion Barbe-Lake Charles plays West Monroe in the other quarterfinal at 1 p.m. Action in Sulphur begins with two 10 a.m. semifinals. In Class C, District 6-C rivals Maurepas and Family Christian meet. Familu Chrisian is the top seed and defending Class C champion, while Maurepas is seeded fourth. In Class 3A, fifth-seeded Parkview Baptist takes on top-seeded North DeSoto. District 7-3A rivals collide when No. 11 Brusly plays second-seeded E.D. White in 3A action at 1 p.m. In Class 4A, second-seeded Lutcher plays No. 6 Tioga in its tourney debut at 4 p.m. The Baton Rouge area’s two Monroe-bound teams play back-to-back games. Fourth-seeded University plays Shreveport’s Calvary Baptist, the top seed, at 1 p.m. in a 2A semifinal. Sixth-seeded St. John faces No. 2 Mangham at 4 p.m. in a 1A semifinal.
