Casio, a 2003 Catholic graduate, spent the last three years as head boys coach at nearby Christian Life Academy. In 2011-12, Casico coached the Crusaders to the Class 1A state title. Earlier this month, he coached CLA to the 1A semifinals, where the Crusaders lost to eventual state champion Metairie Park Country Day. Cascio met with his players at Christian Life on Friday and was also introduced at Catholic on Friday afternoon. Prior to coaching at CLA, Cascio was head boys coach at Catholic-Pointe Coupee. Meanwhile, Gonzales-based Ascension Christian announced the hiring of a new head football coach and also introduced its baseball coach as a football assistant for 2013-14 at a school assembly. Josh Puryear is the new football coach at ACH. Puryear is a former Lions player who has been the school’s defensive coordinator for four years. It is the first head coaching job for Puryear, a former Dutchtown High player. Paul Burgard, already the school’s head baseball coach, will serve as a coordinator for Puryear. Burgard, 68, has 41 years of coaching experience.
