Catholic, BRHS track teams ranked No. 1 in initial poll

Two Baton Rouge-based teams, Catholic High and Baton Rouge High, lead the first composite/all classifications state track and field polls released by the Louisiana Track and Field Coaches Association.
The Bears received eight first-place votes and 98 points in the boys poll; BRHS finished with seven first-place votes and 97 points. John Curtis (88), Dutchtown (77), Zachary (61) and Covington-based St. Paul’s (56) complete the boys top five. Dutchtown got the other two first-place votes.
Lafayette got the other three girls first-place votes and is ranked second with 93 points. Lake Charles-based St. Louis Catholic (80), New Orleans’ McDonogh 35 (67) and Lake Charles’ Hamilton Christian (57) complete the girls top five.
Brusly will host its Brusly Invitational track and field meet starting at 3:45 p.m. Thursday with field events.
Running events start at 5:15 p.m.
Teams set to compete include the host Panthers, Live Oak, St. John-Plaquemine, Madison Prep, Port Allen, Hosanna Christian, East Iberville and The Dunham School.
