St. Michael claims OT win over Belle Chasse St. Michael claims OT win over Belle Chasse Advocate staff report Feb. 08, 2013 Comments St. Michael the Archangel claimed a 2-1 overtime victory over Belle Chasse in Division II boys soccer bidistrict playoff action Friday night at the Burbank Soccer Complex. Ashton Fletcher scored the winning goal in the first overtime period. With the win, the SMHS, the 15th seed, advances to play No. 2 St. Louis Catholic at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Lake Charles. The contest was scoreless at the half, despite the Warriors having several opportunities to score near the goal. Belle Chasse opened the scoring with a goal early in the second half. SMHS countered with goal by Jake Buss. Mitchell Williams headed the ball across the field to Buss, who netted the goal. St. Michael came close to scoring again on a throw-in a short time later, just before the whistle blew to signal the end of regulation. The Warriors carried that momentum into the first overtime period. Fletcher’s hard shot smacked off of a Belle Chasse defender and into the goal five minutes into the first overtime period. SMHS had several additional chances to score, but did not. The Warriors also managed to hold BCHS at bay during the two overtimes. Girls EAST ASCENSION 2, SULPHUR 1: Rebecca Austin and Jada Babin each scored a goal to boost East Ascension to a Division I bidistrict girls victory Friday night in Gonzales. With the victory, the 14th-seeded Spartans advance to play No. 3 Fontainebleau at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Mandeville. Lynda Boylan had four saves for the winners. Casey Fitts scored the lone goal for Sulphur. Shelby Mendibles had 15 saves for 19th-seeded SHS.
