Players to start preparations for Red Stick all-star game Players to start preparations for Red Stick all-star game Advocate staff report Dec. 14, 2012 Comments Players are scheduled to report to Denham Springs High School on Sunday afternoon to begin preparations for the U.S. Army Red Stick Bowl all-star football game. A 1:30 p.m. meeting is set for players scheduled to take the ACCT tutoring class. All players must report at 3:30 p.m. for team meetings for the Black Knights and Rough Riders. Players are required to bring their completed participation form with them to the Sunday meeting. Both teams begin practice at 4 p.m. Monday at BREC’s Independence Park. The game is set for 2:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at Denham Springs. St. Amant’s David Oliver will serve as head coach for the Black Knights, while Port Allen’s Guy Blanchard will coach the Rough Riders. Bayou all-star game The 13th annual HTV-Lions Club Bayou vs. River Region All-Star Showdown is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux. Players from the Bayou area will square off against players from the River Parishes. Former East Ascension coach John Lambert, now an assistant at Hahnville, will serve as the River Parish coach. Terrebonne’s Gary Hill will coach the Bayou all-stars. Boatner to sign Scotlandville High girls basketball player Daylin Boatner is scheduled to sign with Xavier University-New Orleans on Wednesday. Boatner, a 5-foot-11 post player who is a 4.0 student in the classroom, and has earned all-district honors twice. She is the second local player to sign with the Gold Nuggets for 2013-14, joining University High’s Makayla Matthews. Fox broadcasts Those who were unable to attend the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Prep Classic over the weekend will get their chance to see the five football title games on Fox Sports New Orleans. The tape-delayed broadcasts move to Fox this fall as part of a new agreement negotiated by the LHSAA. The broadcasts begin Tuesday with replays of the Class 1A game between Haynesville and Ouachita Christian airing at 10 p.m. The game will also be shown at 1 p.m. Dec. 18. The schedule also includes: Class 4A: Karr vs. Neville: 10 p.m. Wednesday; 8 a.m. Dec. 24. Class 3A: Notre Dame vs. Parkview Baptist: 9 p.m. Thursday; 1 p.m. Dec. 27. Class 2A: Evangel Christian vs. John Curtis: 5 p.m. Thursday; 8 a.m. Dec. 29. Class 5A: Barbe vs. Rummel: 10 p.m. Friday; 1 p.m. Dec. 28. Umpires meetings The Baton Rouge Softball Chapter of the Louisiana High School Officials Association and the Capital City Umpires Association for baseball will both hold organizational meetings this week. The LHSOA softball chapter will meet at 6 p.m. Sunday at Runnels School located at 17225 Harrells Ferry Road, not far from O’Neal Lane in Baton Rouge. Topics for this membership drive meeting will include officer elections, by-laws, required umpire mechanics and member registration. All veteran umpires, and those wishing to become an umpire in 2013, should plan to attend.
