Dec 9, 2012 00:23 Several basketball tourneys set Several basketball tourneys set Advocate staff report Dec. 09, 2012 Comments Some of the Baton Rouge area’s oldest traditional basketball tournaments help highlight a busy schedule. Two tournaments, the East Baton Rouge Parish Tournament for girls and the 28th Livingston Parish Tournament for boys and girls, begin on Tuesday. The EBR girls tourney is set for Belaire High, while Doyle Middle School-Livingston is the site of the Livingston Parish tourney. Central’s 35th Charles T. Kinsley Tournament for boys teams helps tops the list of tourneys that begin on Wednesday. Also set to start Wednesday are the East Feliciana Tournament (boys and girls) and the 14th Episcopal Round-Robin (boys). The University High Classic (girls) starts on Thursday. McKinley, host Belaire, and Baker are the highest seeded teams in the EBR girls tourney that continues through Saturday when the title game is set for 7:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Denham Springs (girls) and Walker (boys) are the top-seeded teams for the Livingston Parish tourney, which also runs through Saturday when the girls title game is set for 4:30 p.m. (girls) and 6 p.m. (boys). Four games will be played each day at the Central-based Kinsley tourney starting at 4 p.m. Teams scheduled to play include Woodlawn, Zachary, Pointe Coupee Central, Scotlandville, Catholic, Career Academy, Redemptorist, Central, Istrouma, Tara, Glen Oaks and Belaire. The title game is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Games for the 14th Episcopal Round-Robin start at 4:30 p.m. each day. There will be three games each day with the host Knights, East Ascension, Southern Lab, Ascension Catholic, University, St. Michael and E.D. White set to compete. The East Feliciana tourney, which begins Thursday, will include two boys games and two girls games each day. Teams entered include West Feliciana (boys and girls), St. Helena Central (boys and girls), Livonia (boys and girls), Independence (girls), Southern Lab (girls), Northeast (boys) and Baker (boys). Saturday’s finals are set for 6 p.m. (girls) and 7:15 p.m. (boys). The University Classic has a round-robin format and features teams from Brusly, The Dunham School, Runnels, Lutcher, host UHS, White Castle, East Iberville and Redemptorist.
