Baton Rouge area baseball players sign with state schools Baton Rouge area baseball players sign with state schools Advocate staff report Dec. 01, 2012 Comments Three Baton Rouge area baseball players signed with state colleges during the past week and one underclassman, Zachary High sophomore Micah McHugh, committed to Ole Miss. McHugh started every game at shortstop as a freshman last season and hit .320 for the Broncos, said Zachary coach Jesse Cassard. Three pitchers, CentralPrivate's Chase Martin and the Zachary duo of Trent Crowder and Evan Tidwell, signed with state colleges. All three are right-handers. Martin signed with the University of New Orleans after pitching and playing the infield for the Rebels of the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools. Crowder signed with the University of Louisiana at Monroe and was 9-0 for ZHS last spring. Tidwell, a Northwestern State signee, had a 6-1 record as a junior. All-district teams due The deadline to submit all-district football teams to The Advocate is Monday. Teams can be submitted by fax to (225) 388-0318 or by email to email@example.com. Coaches are reminded to follow the Louisiana Sports Writers Association's guidelinesfor all-district teams found in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association directory and in the media section of the LHSAA website at lhsaa.org. Coaches who have not already submitted all-district volleyball teams should also plan to do so by Monday. All-state nominations Head football coaches are reminded to submit their nominations for the Louisiana Sports Writers Association's all-state teams also Monday. Players nominated must be first-team all-district selections. Coaches are asked to provide the player's name, school, grade, height, weight, position and season statistics. Metro meetings Wednesday Selection meetings for Baton Rouge's All-Metro cross country and volleyball teams will be Nov. 28 at different sites. Coaches will meet to select boys and girls cross country teams at 4 p.m. in the Episcopal coaches office. The large schools and small schools volleyball teams will be picked at a 6 p.m. meeting at Team Sportsplex located on Perkins Road adjacent to BREC's Olympia Stadium.
