Farmerville upsets Eunice Farmerville upsets Eunice Advocate staff report Nov. 21, 2012 Comments Darian Mitchell scored on a 34-yard run and Ronnie Smith had a 9-yard scoring run as 14th-seed Farmerville upset third-seed Eunice 21-12 in a Class 3A regional playoff game. The other major upset of the night also came in Class 3A when 13th-seeded Jennings knocked off fourth-seeded Loranger 20-19. Farmerville (10-2) jumped out to an 8-0 lead on a 29-yard scoring strike from Jamarious Williams to Deandre Elliot and a 2-point conversion run by Ronnie Smith. A pair of field goals by Eunice’s Taylor Aguillard cut the lead to 8-6, but Mitchell’s scoring run boosted the Farmerville lead to 14-6. A 15-yard TD run by Darious Richard of Eunice (11-1) cut the lead to 14-12, but Smith’s run in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach. Farmerville will host East Feliciana (7-3) next week in the Class 3A quarterfinals. In Loranger, a failed 2-point conversion in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as Jennings upset Loranger (9-2). Jennings (9-3) opened the scoring with an 18-yard scoring pass from Jaylon Boutte to Bryson Jones. Loranger took a short-lived 7-6 lead on a 5-yard scoring run by Breland Dillon, but Charlie Matte scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 55-yard run to put Jennings up 13-7. Loranger’s Jeryl Brazil, an LSU commitment, opened the second half with a 55-yard run. He finished with 160 yards on 18 carries. Matte, who led all rushers with 165 yards on 14 carries, put Jennings ahead for good with 1-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Miguel Toefield scored on a 5-yard run with less than six minutes to go but Loranger’s season ended when they couldn’t make the 2-point conversion. Jennings will travel to Livonia (10-2) next week. Class 4A NEVILLE 41, BREAUX BRIDGE 21: In Breaux Bridge, John Diarse scored on runs of 55, 14 and 1 yards and threw a 65-yard scoring pass to Kevontae Turpin as top-seeded Neville (11-0) jumped out to a 35-0 first-half lead and cruised to a win over 17th-seeded Breaux Bridge. Diarse, who finished with 125 yards on 14 carries, also threw for 111 yards. Salaraious Jones led all rushers with 137 yards on 18 carries, including a 22-yard scoring run. Lane Landry threw a 32-yard scoring pass to Randall Menard, a 26-yarder to Deandre Alexander and a 21-yard TD pass to Aaron Lastrapes for Breaux Bridge (8-4). Neville will host Vandebilt (11-1), a 20-15 winner over Franklin Parish, next week. Class 3A NOTRE DAME 27, ST. CHARLES 7: In LaPlace, Austin Thibodeaux ran for two touchdowns and Brad Stoma threw for one and ran for another as second-seeded Notre Dame (10-1). advanced to the quarterfinals in Class 3A. Thibodeaux scored on a pair of 1-yard runs while Stoma threw a 20-yard TD pass to Kevin Frank and scored on a 1-yard run. Brandon Zimmer scored on a 1-yard run for St. Charles (8-3). Class 1A KENTWOOD 34, COUNTRY DAY 17: In Kentwood, Leslie Collins returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown and scored on a 75-yard run as the fifth-seeded Kangaroos put up 28 points in the first half en route to the convincing win. Tavarious Battiste threw an 8-yard TD pass to Robert Trout, and Torandon Watson had a 12-yard scoring run as Kentwood improved to 10-1. Trout also scored on a 55-yard kickoff return. Michael Mann threw a 2-yard scoring pass to Trey Harrell and Jackson Jansen kicked a 31-yard field goal for Country Day (10-2) WESTMINSTER 36, BLOCK 6: In Block, Tyler Louviere and Luke Judice each scored a pair of touchdowns as Westminster Christian Academy (10-2) dominated Block (9-3). Louviere scored on runs of 22 and 1 yards while Justice scored on 9 and 39-yard runs. Mario Bownman scored the Block TD on an 80-yard run. Westminster will host Haynesville, a 38-0 winner over Oberlin, in a quarterfinal game next week.
