St. Martinville edges Lutcher St. Martinville edges Lutcher Advocate staff report Nov. 15, 2012 Comments St. Martinville High pulled off one the biggest bidistrict round playoff upsets, ousting third-seeded Lutcher High, 30-29, in Class 4A action Friday night. Quarterback Jamiah Nelson scored on a two-point conversion with 55 seconds left in the game to provide the margin of victory for St. Martinville. Also, Class 1A Pointe Coupee Central posted the first playoff win in school history, beating Montgomery, 52-18. Running back Antonio Johnson scored four touchdowns and Kevin Bourgeois passed for 243 yards and two TDs for PCC. ST. MARTINVILLE 30, LUTCHER 29: In Lutcher, Malik Anthony and Nelson combined to rush for 277 yards to power No. 29 seed St. Martinville (6-5) to a playoff victory over No. 3 Lutcher. Anthony had a game-high 152 yards on 32 carries, while Nelson finished with 125 yards on 19 carries for SMHS. Nelson also completed two passes for 103 yards, including the decisive 27-yard to Quinton Mitchell with 55 seconds left, setting up the game-winning two-point PAT. Ruston Matherne completed 14 of 22 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns for Lutcher (9-1), but was intercepted twice. POINTE COUPEE CENTRAL 35, MONTGOMERY 18: In LaBarre, Antonio Johnson ran for 122 yards on just five carries and scored four touchdowns for the eighth-seeded Cougars (8-2), who host No. 8 Southern Lab (9-2) in Friday’s regional round. Johnson also threw a TD pass. Kevin Bourgeois completed 17 of 24 passes for 243 yards with two TDs for PCC. Delfontay Powell led all PCC receivers with five catches for 71 yards. Earnest Lemay finished with 12 tackles to lead the Cougar defense. BASTROP 66, ST. MICHAEL 34: In Bastrop, St. Michael (7-4) for 205 passing yards from quarterback Brandon Fields, who completed 16 of 29 passes with three going for TDs. Jeffrey Vaccaro caught five passes for 136 and two TDs for the Warriors, while Tag Rome caught five passes for 34 yards and a TD. SMHS also got a 71-yard kickoff return for a TD from Matthew Butler. The Warriors’ Christopher Reid averaged 50.6 yards per punt. Collin Hughes also returned two kickoffs for a total of 78 yards. Bastrop quarterback Jaeterious Davis accounted for four TDs, along with 188 passing yards and 153 rushing yards. WEST ST. JOHN 53, OPELOUSAS CATHOLIC 13: In Edgard, Jeremy Jackson ran for a game-high 153 yards and three TDs to power sixth-seeded West St. John (7-3) to a Class 1A win. Austin Howard completed 10 of 16 passes for 199 yards and two TDs and also scored on a 4-yard run. Adam LeBlanc ran for 49 yards to pace Opelousas Catholic. NOTRE DAME 38, PATTERSON 26: In Crowley, Luke Broussard and Denzel Johnson provided the offensive fireworks as NDHS ran for 401 yards and Patterson passed for 443 yards. Broussard ran for 205 yards on 21 carries and scored three TDs for No. 2-seeded Notre Dame (9-1). John Besse added 94 yards on three carries, including a 74-yard TD run. Patterson’s Johnson completed 25 of 54 passes for 443 yards and four TDs. Daylon Charlot had four catches for 141 yards and two TDs for the Lumberbacks (7-4). Mykel Jones (5-98) and Deondre Skinner (6-93) were the other top receivers for PHS. FRANKLIN PARISH 19, ASSUMPTION 14: In Winnsboro, Brandon Hillman ran for a game-high 139 yards on 25 carries and scored the game-winning TD with 2:02 remaining in the game to boost Franklin Parish (9-2) in Class 4A action. Hillman’s 6-yard TD run in the closing minutes provided the final lead change. Assumption (6-5) led 14-13 after Dequam Tucker scored on a 1-yard run with 7:44 to go in the game. Tucker had a 5-yard TD run in the second quarter. Acquindas Brown ran for 64 yards on 13 carries lead the Mustangs. AHS quarterback Cameron Blame passed for 85 yards and ran for 39.
