Notre Dame defeats Catholic-New Iberia
CROWLEY — Luke Broussard ran for 145 yards on 15 carries and scored three touchdowns as Notre Dame defeated Catholic High of New Iberia 48-16 to highlight prep action Friday night.
Notre Dame, the fourth-ranked team in Class 3A, scored 34 points in the first half on runs of 9, 80 and 1 yards by Broussard and a 1-yard run by Austin Thibodaux who finished with 138 yards on 10 carries.
Joe Lissard tried to rally Catholic High, which came in the game as the sixth-ranked team in Class 2A.
He threw a 22-yard scoring pass to Jason Pellerin and an 11-yard strike to Joe Dworaczyk. Notre Dame improved to 3-1, while Catholic-New Iberia dropped to 3-2.
ASSUMPTION 34, ST. JAMES 0: Dequan Tucker scored on runs of 1 and 27 yards as Assumption blanked St. James on Friday.
Acquindas Brown, who led all rushers with 126 yards on 19 carries, scored on a 1-yard run.
Dajuawn Oliver ran the second half kickoff back 83 yards and Cameron Blame scored on a 1-yard run for the other Assumption touchdowns.
SACERD HEART-VILLE PLATTE 33, CATHOLIC-PC 14: Drew David ran for 182 yards and scored on runs of 2, 50 and 9 yards as Sacred Heart of Ville Platte improved to 2-0 in District 6-1A.
Aaron Fabre scored on a 15-yard run for Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (3-2), which dropped to 1-1 in district play.
RAYNE 14, SOUTH BEAUREGARD 12: In Rayne, Dannie Harmon’s 35-yard interception return proved to be the winning score as eighth-ranked Rayne (5-0) edged South Beauregard in nondistrict play.
South Beauregard took a 6-0 lead on a 50-yard run in the first quarter. Rayne went up 7-6 on a 77-yard run by Jalen Williams, and Hamon’s interception upped the lead to 14-6. South Beauregard’s Joe Ledet cut the lead to 14-12, but a failed converstion attempt gave Rayne the win.
JENA 16, OAKDALE 14: In Oakdale, Jena scored in the fourth quarter on a 7-yard run and held off an Oakdale rally. Courtland Morette scored on a 6-yard run and Reg Philson scored on a 7-yard run by Reg Philson.
IOTA 16, OBERLIN 12: In Iota, Brandan Fantry scored on a 5-yard run and a two-point conversion as Iota rallied past Oberlin.
Oberlin had jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter on 4-yard runs by Trace Joubert and Austin Darbonne but failed on both conversions.
Thomas Murrell started the Iota rally with a 4-yard run in the second quarter. A Fantray two-point conversion cut the lead to 12-8.
Thursday
NEW IBERIA 43, WESTGATE 7: In New Iberia, Jason Jones ran for one score and threw for another as New Iberia (4-1), the ninth-ranked team in Class 5A, improved to 2-0 in District 7-5A.
Jones tossed a 24-yard scoring pass to Josh Richie and scored on a 6-yard run to give the Jackets a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
Bryson Bourque returned a Westgate fumble for a touchdown, Cody Seditsky kicked a 23-yard field goal and Daniel Lewis scored on a 3-yard run as the Jackets took a 31-0 halftime lead. Drew Fuselier scored on a 35-yard run and Scotty Nicholas added a 16-yard run in the second half to wrap up the scoring.
Westgate dropped to 0-5 and 0-2 in district.
ST. MARTINVILLE 48, OPELOUSAS 14: In St. Martinville, five different runners scored as St. Martinville breezed to a nondistrict win Thursday night.
Malik Anthony led the Tiger attack with 119 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown, Jamail Ledet, Jamiah Nelson, Lorenzo Chaisson and quarterback Brylin Porter all scored for St. Martinville (4-1). Porter also threw a 37-yard TD pass to Kendall Wiltz.
Opelousas opened the scoring with a 65 yard scoring pass from Josh Fontenot to Johnny Guidry and a 13-yard run put Opelousas up 14-8. But St. martinville scored 40 points in the second half to put the game away.
LORANGER 39, ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 19: In Loranger, Jeryl Brazil threw for 184 yards and four touchdowns as Loranger (4-0) the third-ranked team in Class 3A, took the nondistrict win.
Two of the scoring passes went to Jake Ingraffia, while the other two went to Nick Keller and Javeon Francis. Miguel Toefield ran for 107 yards on 8 carries including a 56-yard TD run.
Ralph Haynes and Jesse Hester had scoring runs for St. Thomas Aquinas (1-3).
EUNICE 48, BEAU CHENE 7: In Arnaudville, Darious Richard scored on runs of 5, 7 and 3 yards as Eunice, the second-ranked team in Class 3-A improved to 5-0. Trenon Trosclair threw 55- and 32-yard scoring passes to Derek Denton as the Bobcats jumped out to a 28-0 first half lead .
Chase Gatte threw a 25-yard TD pass to Tyler Adams for Beau Chene (0-5).
NORTHWEST 40, MAMOU 12: In Mamou, Sedrian Jackson ran for 135 yards on 13 carries and scored three touchdowns as Northwest improved to 5-0. Geremy Leday threw 37 and 25-yard scoring passes D’ante Lewis as Northwest scored 34 points in the second and third quarters. Mamou dropped to 0-5.
