Busy clinic agenda awaits Louisiana high school coaches today

The Louisiana High School Coaches Association’s annual Coaches Clinic begins on Tuesday with workshops for coaches in five different sports.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. for the event that runs through noon Thursday at the Crowne Plaza. The first lectures by college/prep coaches begin at 9 a.m. Go to lhsaa.org for a full schedule of speakers.

LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis and Tulane coach Curtis Johnson are among the college football coaches scheduled to speak on Tuesday.

LSU volleyball coach Fran Flory and Tiger men’s basketball coach Johnny Jones are also among Tuesday’s speakers, along with Tulane men’s basketball coach Ed Conroy. Flory and Jones are each scheduled to conduct two sessions.

University of Louisiana at Monroe baseball coach Jeff Schexnaider is set to speak on the first day of the clinic.

“Every year, we’re impressed by the number of coaches who contact us about speaking at this clinic,” Louisiana High School Athletic Association Assistant Executive Director Rhonda Dreibelbis said. “The fact that college coaches want to get in front of our coaches and build a relationship with them speaks well for our coaches.”

Three local high school coaches, Zachary High football coach Neil Weiner, Donaldsonville High football coach Terence Williams and Scotlandville High boys basketball coach Carlos Sample, are also set to be among Tuesday’s speakers.

Workshops begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
