Dutchtown pitcher strikes out 12 in win
NEW ORLEANS — Dutchtown High’s offense produced enough runs to win most baseball games, but Jacob Waguespack’s pitching left no doubt.
Waguespack struck out 12 batters, as No. 9-seeded Dutchtown routed No. 8 Brother Martin 9-0 Monday in a Class 5A regional round game at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
The Griffins improved to 27-9; the Crusaders finished 22-10.
Dutchtown will await the winner between No. 1-seeded Barbe and No. 17 Catholic in a game Monday that was suspended by rain.
Colin Delaune led Dutchtown, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Robbie Pedorsky was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Lucas Shipman had a hit and drove in a pair of runs.
Class 3A
NORTH DESOTO 4, LIVONIA 3: In Stonewall, Matt Martin’s RBI double scored Tucker Oliver in the bottom of the seventh, lifting North DeSoto from a 3-2 deficit to eliminate defending Class 3A champion Livonia in a quarterfinal.
Livonia, the No. 3 seed, finished 27-4. No. 11-seeded North DeSoto improved to 23-9.
Jared West (11-1) got the win for the Griffins, striking out 10 in a complete-game effort. Mason Torres (8-2) took the loss for the Wildcats.
North DeSoto advanced to a semifinal matchup Friday against E.D. White, a 7-5 winner over St. Charles.
Class 2A
EVANGEL 8, RUNNELS 1: In Shreveport, Evangel exploded for eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings to advance past Runnels in the quarterfinals.
Evangel took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning and broke it open with six more runs in the fifth, a frame that included a grand slam by Jack Parker (1-for-3, 5 RBIs). Hayden Jennings was also 2-for-4.
Daniel Parker and Josh Morris were each 2-for-3 for Runnels, Morris with a triple.
Runnels finished 18-14. Evangel is 24-7.
Evangel will take on Riverside, a 9-3 winner over Holy Savior Menard, in a Friday semifinal.
