Silliman boys golf team third

FLOWOOD, Miss. — The Silliman High School boys golf team finished third in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AA South championship Monday at The Refuge Golf Club, earning a spot in next week’s state tournament.

Haley Harrington shot a team-best 84, finishing in a tie for third place among individuals.

Barrett Day (86), Layn Schober (90) and Austin Gayle (97) were the Wildcats’ other top scorers, helping them stay near the top of the leader board.

Lamar and Brookhaven Academy finished tied for first, 10 shots ahead of Silliman.

Lamar earned the top seed in a playoff over Brookhaven.

Columbia Academy finished fourth to earn a berth in the state tournament, which happens May 7 at Brookhaven Country Club.

Adam Ham of Columbia was the individual South champion, posting a 72, followed by Brookhaven’s Jacob Ross at 76. Harrington and Lamar’s Hunter Dugan tied for third.

Baseball

CHEF-BATON ROUGE 13, ACADIANA HOME SCHOOL 0: Trent Kinchen went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs, and CHEF scored at least two runs in each of the first four innings to breeze past Acadiana Home School in a playoff win.

The Patriots scored three runs each in the first two innings, then took an 11-0 lead after a five-run third inning.

Hayden Shipp was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI for CHEF (11-2).

Connor Lloyd was also 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Lloyd also held Acadiana to four hits.
