Acadiana ousts St. Amant in overtime
SCOTT — St. Amant’s hopes for a deep run into the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s boys soccer playoffs ended Thursday night when seventh-seeded Acadiana High rallied to take a 2-1 double overtime win.
Jaxson Lambert scored the lone goal for 10th-seeded St. Amant (19-6) in the Division I regional-round contest, giving the his team a 1-0 lead.
Acadiana didn’t tie it until Salvador Colin scored with 6:15 left in regulation. Jean Breaux scored the game-winner. Garrett Gilbert finished with 10 saves for the Gators.
Quarterfinal times set
Five local teams have already made plans for quarterfinal playoff contests at home next week.
The area’s four remaining girls teams will all play quarterfinals Monday, led University (17-1-2) hosting Runnels (14-3-3) in an all-local Division III contest at 5 p.m. UHS is seeded third, while Runnels is No. 6.
Also in Division III, second-seeded Episcopal (23-3-1) hosts Shreveport’s Loyola Prep, also at 5.
Dutchtown (17-9), a 10th seed, hosts No. 2 St. Scholastica at 6 p.m. in Division I. Dutchtown is the lowest seeded team left in Division I.
The University High boys squad (27-3) has its Division III quarterfinal set for Tuesday. The Cubs will host Catholic-New Iberia at 5:30 p.m.
