Episcopal, East Ascension advance in girls playoffs

Keely Davis scored three gaols and Nicole Newton had two as second-seeded Episcopal routed 31st-seeded Christian Life 9-0 in a girls Division III first-round soccer playoff match Friday night.

One goal each was scored by Lindsay Redhead, Taylor Coleman, Noelle Kerr and Carolina Goodner.

Episcopal advances to play 18th-seeded Ouachita Christian.

EAST ASCENSION 7, BARBE 0: Seven different players scored goals as ninth-seeded East Ascension beat 24th-seeded Barbe in a Division I game.

The goal scorers were Marina Speligene, Jordan Guedry, Kayla Bourgeois, Rebecca Austin, Janel Boylan, Marissa Sanchez and Ally Miller.

Ana Britton had one save for East Ascension and Natalie North had 11 for Barbe of Lake Charles.

East Ascension advanced to play at eighth-seeded Mandeville on Wednesday.

Boys

CATHOLIC 7, NATCHITOCHES-CENTRAL 0: Chris Bordelon scored two goals as sixth-seeded Catholic defeated 27th-seeded Natchitoches Central.

Others scoring goals for Catholic were Trey Poche, Andrew Thriffily, Daniel Moore, Sam Schexnayder and Brian Anderson.

Kean Jones had one save for Catholic, and Gilbert Norwood had 12 saves for Central Matchitoches.

Catholic advanced to play 11th-seeded Dutchtown.

ST. MICHAEL 2, BROADMOOR 0: Mitchell Williams and Cleland Monticello each scored goals in the second overtime to lift the Warriors.

St. Michael (15-7-3) got a shutout from goalie Jacob Bordelon, who had five saves.

Greg Ramirez had 11 saves for Broadmoor (7-9).

UNIVERSITY 5, HOUMA CHRISTIAN 0: Five University players scored goals and Hunter Smithberg made saves against all four of Houma Christian’s scoring opportunities in a Division III first-round match.

Luke Wagner, Eric Strupp, Tapper Patrick, Reid Cheuvin and David Barry each had goals for University, which improved to 19-7-3.

ZACHARY 2, WESTGATE 0: No. 18 Zachary upset No. 15 Westgate to advance to the second round.

JESUIT 12, WALKER 0: The top-seeded Blue Jays of New Orleans had an easy time advancing against 32nd-seeded Walker in a Division I match at Pan American Stadium.
