BY TED LEWIS| Special to The Advocate Feb. 07, 2014 Comments Pierre to get remake Just in time for the All-Star game, Pierre is getting a makeover. The Pelicans’ mascot, which has drawn negative reviews since he debuted with in the season opener will be “redesigned,” according to a team source. “It goes hand-in-hand with the normal evolution and growth of the pelican,” the source said. “So yes, change is on the horizon and change is always good.” Pierre replaced Hugo the Hornet with the team’s change of nicknames but was largely criticized and ridiculed for not resembling a pelican and also being scary to children. Since the opener, Pierre’s role has been reduced to largely standing with the cheerleaders and shooting T-shirts into the crowd. Team mascots are usually featured at the NBA Fan Jam as part of the All-Star weekend.
