Pierre Jackson overcame a lack of size to become a two-time All-Big 12 player at Baylor. Now the 5-foot-10 guard apparently will get a chance to make it in the NBA with the Pelicans.
Philadelphia chose Jackson on behalf of the Pelicans on Thursday night to complete its part of the deal that sent guard Jrue Holiday to New Orleans in exchange for the rights to Nerlens Noel and a protected No. 1 pick in 2014.
Jackson averaged 16.7 points in his two years at Baylor after transferring from the College of Southern Idaho. He is considered an excellent perimeter shooter and a good ball handler who gets to the free throw line frequently (6.7 attempts per game as a senior).
Since the NBA had not officially signed off on the trade, Pelicans officials had no comment after Jackson was picked.
