La. Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries closes four WMA's

Continued heavy rains across south Louisiana has forced the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to close all hunting season, except for the waterfowl seasons, on the Pearl River, Joyce, Manchar and Maurepas Swamp wildlife management areas.

The Pearl River WMA was closed Friday morning. The LDWF pointed to a 16.5-foot reading on the Pearl River for the closure of the gate at the Old U.S. 11 access point. The advisory indicated the gate will remain closed until the river falls below the 16.5-foot mark and the LDWF determined that "...all roads and bridges are determined safe for vehicle passage."

The Joyce, Manchac and Maurepas Swamp WMAs, closing Saturday morning, are located in Ascension, Livingston, St. James, St. John the Baptist and Tangipahoa parishes and will remain closed "...until further notice" according to the LDWF announcement.
